My friend Nicole and I have seriously been thinking about moving to the UK to study there instead of here in Texas. We just really need to get away from here, and I would also like to be closer to my boyfriend who lives in Germany. The only problem we have is money, which neither of us have a lot of. Can anyone tell me how much it would cost to go to a university there? Is it a lot more expensive than it is to go to school in Texas? I just need help knowing if this would be possible for me or if it's completely hopeless...any help is much appreciated.

  1. Cost depends on what you want to study.

This may help, but it is only for the University of Kent.

  2. European universities are generally less expensive than those in the U.S., but of course, you would have additional travel expenses.

  3. Hmmm, let me see.... I really don't know ^_^ <333 But I think you should do it! Do it do it do it! Or I will no longer be your best friend :P Maybe I'll look up some stuff later.

  4. An average year of international study in the UK will range from £9,000-£15,000 ($18,000-$30,000). This amount is solely for tuition fees, so does not include accommodation, books, transportation, food, or fun. I took a course that was £12,000 ($24,000) for on year and took out $34,000 in Stafford and private loans. The loans, along with about $800 per month from my parents allowed me to live comfortably in Scotland and only work part time (as with a student visa, you will only be allowed to work 20 hours/week during term times).

The city you live in will be the biggest variation in your expenses as a room in a shared flat in London can run upwards of £400 ($800) per month, but in other cities you can  rent a two-bedroom apartment for that.

What I recommend is to look for universities that you would like to attend (use the link below, which has a map showing all institues of higher education in the UK and is a great resource) and then contact their International Students offices. They should be able to provide you with the approximate costs of living.

Studying abroad was one of the best decisions of my life. Good luck!
