Hey guys...

So, I don't know if any of you noticed, but I haven't been on as much lately. I'm moving and beginning graduate school in under a month (ack!), finishing up work, and trying to enjoy my summer in the city. I haven't had much time for this board, and I think I'll have less and less time in the near future, so I'm thinking this will be my goodbye post. I've really enjoyed coming here, I love talking hockey with you guys... I will probably be back occasionally, but I don't know when.

I gotta say... Go Rangers!

Hockey question: with the success of the MLB all star game, what can the NHL do to improve their all star game? Should the winning conference get home ice for the stanley cup finals?

  1. Good luck and best wishes Greg!(:

And no. Just keep it the way it is, it's fine. You can get hurt much more easily in hockey. So if you make the All-Star game mean something, people could get hurt, and that would be horrible and a bad reason to miss out on games. In baseball, they really can't get hurt when playing their best, besdies the usual ways.

  2. Well Greg, even though our teams are bitter rivals, we got along well proving that hockey fans are the best fans in sports. It's been great knowing you.

When life says it's time to dance, then it's time to dance. I wish you well in life and like I always say, we'll welcome you back.

And good luck to the Rangers as long as it doesn't cost the Flyers anything.

The NHL could afford to try that suggestion you made to add meaning to the game. But the players don't go hard at it for fear of injury. Perhaps the rules of the All Star game should be amended so as to prohibit checking into the boards or anything that would make the game more interesting.

The problem is that offense sells, not defense when it comes to all star games.

  3. Good luck in grad school and enjoy what is left of your summer (it's really flying by!).

I don't know how to make it work but they should make the All Star Game count.  Also don't give the players that are selected the option to back out.  There have been too many "non" all stars in some games.

  4. Grad school, eh?  If you ever swing back the other way...let me know. (Kidding).  Well, good luck to you in your future.  You always seemed like a smart guy to me, so I am sure you will go far in your endeavors. You will be missed.

To answer your question:  The MLB All Star game is a bit different.  In the NHL All Stars, the "game" has unspoken "girls" rules, which in my opinion is super yawners.  In the MLB All Stars there seems to be more of a "production", with concerts, performers, and fireworks (really appeals to Americans). The NHL All Stars feels more like a bunch of friends on the ice saying, "Check this out."  I still say that both of them are pretty boring, but I rather be bored watching guys on ice, then watching guys on grass.

  5. good lord, is this the soap opera section or something?

good luck dude.  wish you well, seriously.  btw, don't take it so hard when life kicks you in the a$$, REPEATEDLY, as if it were a joke.  you'll understand what i'm saying the older you get............................

  6. Aww, good luck! We'll miss you here!

    Go Rangers!

    No. Nothing can save it.

  7. Bye, and good luck with school!  We're gonna miss you, even though you're a Rangers fan :)  Hehe.  Go Devils!

    And NO!

  8. I can't believe I'm aboot to say this to a stinkin Rags fan but.....Sorry to see you go Greg and good luck with Grad school.

No don't do anything else to the All Star Game.I'd say the hockey All Star Game is second behind baseball because the Pro Bowl STINKS as does the NBA game which has no defense.

  9. Good luck man and sorry to see you go, just keep in mind that the Rangers suck, since you won't be around for me to tell you as often ..j/k!!!

I think they should add a Hookah bar and lap dance area to the game.....In my mind those two things make everything better!!! EVERYTHING!!!

  10. Never, the the home ice advantage belongs to the team with the better record.  Home ice is HUGE in the Finals, and that is why you try to have good regular season success, in order to earn home ice advantage.

  11. I think the All-Star game should be played outdoors. What better way to promote the game? Last years outdoor game was a great success. Imagine having the league's best talent out there for something like that. People might actually start watching the All-Star game again.

  12. Good Luck Greg. I hope you do well with your studies.

I am really not sure what can be done that has not already been tried. The North America vs the World, , East vs West, All been done. I do not think the home ice would work that well as an incentive. That is already a big incentive to do well in the regular season. I really can see no way to improve what they offer.

  13. Not you too! Good luck with everything though.

In my opinion the NHL All Star game is pretty boring, however I don't think that the winning All Star team should get home advantage. Maybe they could have a hockey version of the home run derby? Keep on trying to score against the All Star goalie with 3 rounds.

  14. Hockey question : Change the Skills competition so goaltenders don't get injured while participating.  The game has become so much big business, that teams aren't going to let their goalies go anymore for fear of injury.

Good luck in gradual school. Come in when the Isles play the Rags.

The Islanders new Social Security Line (Weight, Sillinger, Guerin) rules!!

  15. Good luck in Grad School and Good luck in the future. Don't forget to visit us!
