Latest Baseball Trades?

The Bosox just got Paul Byrd and the Reds just traded away Adam Dunn. I thought the MLB trade deadline was July 31st. Can someone please explain how these trades can happen after the deadline?

Do you think Paul Byrd will help the BoSox at all?

Do you think the Yankees have a chance in the AL East anymore?

  1. That was the no waiver trade deadline. Basically anyone can be traded for anyone if Bud Selig says it's ok.

The waiver trade line, anyone player can be put on waivers. Anyone. Other teams can claim that player off waivers.

Any team can claim that player. Here's how trades work:

Team1 is talking to Team 2. Team 1 agrees to put playerA on waivers, in exchange that Team 2 puts playerB on waivers, then they claim each others player.

If another team claims that player, say Team 3, then Team 1 can take that player back, they just can't drop him on waivers again.

It's quite confusing but basically the teams agree with each other through the waivers.

  2. Trade can happen, they just have to go through waivers. As for the Yankees, anything is possible, we're not yet mid-August.

  3. Paul Byrd can help the Red Sox if he gets plenty of run support.

The Yankees will not make it to the post season because the Rays, Red Sox, and Twins are in the running for the wild card spot.

  4. Any player traded after the deadline must clear waivers first.. Paul Byrd will help, he has power.

Yankees are on their way out. They need Wang to have any shot.
