Latest football transfer rumours

On a day which has already seen one of the biggest transfers in Premier League history, the football transfer rumour mill is currently working overtime as the new season nears ever closer.

Manchester City are believed to have splashed out around £28 million for Valencia’s David Silva this morning. Here are several other deals which could come to fruition over the forthcoming days and weeks:

One transfer saga which is set to finally reach a conclusion involves Joe Cole. The former Chelsea midfielder is currently unattached, but it’s rumoured that soon-to-be-unveiled Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson, will make the England man his first signing at Anfield.

However, AC Milan are also said to be interested in the 28-year-old, who will offer him £3 million a year.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid are reportedly keen to sign two of England’s better players at this summer’s World Cup finals in the form of Ashley Cole and Steven Gerrard. It’s rumoured that the Spanish giants will have to find £50 million for the pair.

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is also keeping close tabs on Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez. The Argentina international has starred in South Africa in recent weeks, and has been linked with a move away from Eastlands.

One player who has been linked to Manchester City today is Wolfsburg’s highly-revered striker Edin Dzeko. However, Wolfburg are said to be holding out for an astronomical £50 million from the Premier League outfit. Surely this will be enough to put off Roberto Mancini?

On the other hand, Landon Donovan could be a genuine target for Mancini. The USA international had an impressive spell at Everton last season and starred for his national team at the World Cup this summer. A substantial transfer fee could tempt LA Galaxy to part with their prized asset.

And staying on the subject of Man City, Mancini is also said to be interested in Aston Villa duo James Milner and Gabriel Agbonlahor. That’ll be another £44 million according to reports, though.

One of today’s most bizarre transfer rumours involves the brilliant Argentina playmaker, Juan Roman Riquelme. Not so long ago, it was rumoured that West Ham were close to a shock swoop. But now, probably even stranger, is the news that Bolton are desperate to sign the former Boca Juniors superstar.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle is also tracking Brazilian striker Ilan, who had a stint at Upton Park last season with West Ham.

Elsewhere, Birmingham City are looking to splash the cash again. Not content with signing 6’ 8” striker Nikola Zigic, Alex McLeish is now weighing up a £6 million move for Fulham’s Bobby Zamora.

Aston Villa are monitoring Eduardo’s situation at Arsenal. The Croatia striker found himself largely surplus to requirements last season and is looking for a way out of the Emirates.

And a transfer rumour round-up wouldn’t be complete without a mention of Manchester United. The Red Devils have been linked to a trio of talented midfielders today, who are all said to be keen on a move to Old Trafford. Esteban Cambiasso is the biggest name of the three, but highly-rated Greece international Sotiris Ninis and Paris St Germain’s Stéphane Sessègnon have also been touted as potential new arrivals.
