So I asked a Q awhile ago about Lacie taking things away from Loki and how to handle it. Well, tonight she took his bullystick (after she ate hers...greedy wench), and I took it away from her and sent her to her bed and told her to stay. Then I gave it back to Loki who layed down about 10ft from Lacie and finished his treat.

So, question is, Lacie stayed there for about 10 minutes and grudgingly watched him enjoy his treat. After I let her up...do I praise her? Giver her a cookie? Just tell her she was good? Or just let her up like nothing?

  1. I think you did the right thing.

She did as instructed, she needed praise and a little treat as a reward, if you keep it up she may instinctively go to her bed everytime she's tempted to pinch Loki's treats.

Milly always eats her treat first and then sits and watches Amy, although she doesn't atempt to take it, unless Amy leaves it, then she's like greased lightning and she's got it!

Although Amy does at times eat her treats very slowly, and looks at Milly while she does it, she's a bit of a tease. lol

  2. With the add you put in, I think that was right.  The cookie may show her that she needs to stay calm and not become greedy.  And you can praise her too.  I have to tell my dog to stay multiple times, or she'll start army crawling back over to the person who "yelled" at her.

  3. After 10 minutes she's prob long past the "Oh I stole Loki's treat and mum put me on time out"

I would let her up and tell her that she was a very good girl for doing such a splendid down stay while loki had a yummy only 10 feet away!

  4. She's a very good dog for staying on that bed for 10 minutes.

Once Loki's finished his treat and Lacie is allowed to get up, I would give her a small treat and praising words for staying on the bed for that period of time. If she continues to try and take Loki's treats maybe you can tell her to go to bed, then once Loki's finished, praise Lacie for staying on the bed, this may take a while, but if you keep at it she should learn.

Positive reinforcement is a wonderful way to teach pets, once she's learned though give her a treat every so often to remind her that she's being good.

  5. Once you are ready to release her, praise her for staying, and give her a small treat. It was probably very hard for her to sit there and watch him eating that stick. It took a lot out of her, she deserves a treat.

  6. Let her get up and say, do nothing.

  7. I think you did the right thing.  She stayed where she was told to and was being a good girl.  She did everything right and deserved some kind of reward.
