Latest sweep of Philadelphia Phillies by Atlanta Braves may trigger trades - MLB Update
The Philadelphia Phillies’ slump is only getting worse as the season progresses. Their renewed vigour with the comeback of some of their players in the line-up has also been defeated now.
Before start of the series against the Atlanta Braves, they were enthusiastic with the fact that their revised line-up along with the entry of Roy Halladay in the rotation will help them restore the club's pride of being a five time Division Championship
winner.
Much to their disappointment, even the return of Chase Utley and Ryan Howard has done little to reverse their decline in the season.
Though Utley performed extremely well offensively in the series, the silence from the rest of the hitters in the line-up ascertained the overall failure of the club.
In light of the Phillies’ latest sweep by the Braves, one can say that even if Utley and Howard had recovered early, the fate of the club will not have changed.
Right now, the atmosphere in the trade market is dominated by the Phillies as some of their players are being pursued by various organisations. Knowing that the Phillies are in a position to sell their players, number of clubs has approached them.
The reality for Philadelphia is becoming clear after failure in the next series gives strength to the assumption that they are going to make some important roster moves before the deadline.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia’s starter Roy Halladay narrates about how the series went through for the club. While the results are not coming, he just aims to try as hard as he can for bringing cheers on the faces of the disgruntled fans.
“There have been a lot of damaging moments,” he said. “It’s getting frustrating. We have no choice but to keep playing. Regardless of what we did coming into this and what we have in front of us, I think we owe it to the fans, ourselves and the organization
to go out and turn things around and play better baseball. It’s going to be hard and obviously we’re in a substantial hole, but we need to get things going in the right direction.”
As the trade deadline is moments away now, it will be interesting to see how many players the Phillies are going to sell.
