I am going to be taking an immersion course within the next few months and can't decide if I want to go to Latin America or Spain to learn Spanish. I realize that Latin American Spanish is the most widely used in this country but the opportunity to go to Barcelona is amazing to me. Here are my choice Santiago, Chie, Santo Domingo, DR, or Cuzco, Peru or Barcelonia, Spain. I can't decide please give pros cons of each and a choice. Thank you.

  1. Even though I'm from Latin America (Argentina) I recommend you to go to Spain since there u are going to learn the "original" Spanish. Also because it is a safer country compared to those in Latin America.

  2. you should to to spain. once my dominican friend told me the spainish people talk with different spanish accent, than south american countries. it was hard for him to understand. he also said its beaceuse they speak proper spanish.

  3. well im mexican and ive been to barcelona...

if you want to learn spanish (but i mean learn) from the options i'd say peru because they dont have a lot of slang like in chile, mexico, spain or argentina, and yes even spaniards dont speak the proper spanish, trust me... besides barcelona is a bilingual city so you'd probably going to have some problems with "catalán" its a mix of french with spanish..

in spite of everything barcelona probably would be the best city to visit, but not for learning spanish...

    good luck.

  4. If you are going to Barcelona in the winter, then I would prefer to go to Latin America. Barcelona is best in the summer because of the beautiful beaches.

Also those countries you mentioned are beautiful. I would choose Peru because one of my dream places is to visit Machu Pichu. Chile is beautiful too specially in the winter...

You have a difficult decision to make...

  5. i can talk to you about Barcelona not the others. the good thing about Barcelona is its history and its sites to visits and of course because its part of Spain(so it would be proper spanish) but the bad part is that they also speak another language there and people are sometimes relentless to use it to speak with other people

  6. How could you not go to Cuzco. Macchu Piccu, sacsayhuaman, ollantaytambo are all right there.
