Latin quarter in paris?

Is the latin quarter in paris a good place to stay for a first time visitor who wants fun - shopping, bars etc and also wants sightseeing???

Yes. Its probably the best location along with the 6th arrondissment. In either case, stay fairly close to the Seine.

It's clearly one of the best location to stay in Paris!

You have hundreds bars, thousands of shops of every kind, and a lot of touristic places, museums, churches etc.

There are a lot of students in the area, so you can have fun nights and days!

A  little advice:

It's often cheaper to rent a furnished studio (apartment…) for a week (weekend, months…). More and more hotels are charging the breakfast separately (+25 to 30€ for 2 people, in "not too expensive hotels"…).

But if you add the price of 2 meals per person per day, even you eat a sandwich or a salad at lunch and go to a small restaurant in the evening, is at least 50 to 80 more €uros!

In short, having a small "home" and to be able to make a breakfast and a meal oneself is often cool and much less expensive.

If you want to find a studio in the Latin Quarter, make Yahoo or Google search in French (more results).

Try "Location gîte Paris 6ème", or "Location Studio Paris Odéon",  "Location studio Quartier Latin", and look on the maps: it's easier to see where is the accommodation

It's a very nice studio for 2, (small "nest lovers" type), in the 6th (Latin Quarter) and quiet, and not too expensive.

On the website, there are also a lot of tools to prepare your trip: lot of pictures to see what's the Latin Quarter looks like, ideas for walks in the neighborhood and many links to monuments, museums, train stations, airports and so on.

i stayed in the latin quarter and there are lots of restaurants and bars. its close to the Louvre and notre dame and the pantheon. i stayed in the hotel saint severin which was very nice and the staff were friendly. from the hotel it was a two minute walk to notre dame and ten-fifteen to the Louvre, notre dame is well worth a look at night when its all lit up.

Rue Mouffetard is a very nice attraction in the 5th. It has bars restaurants and lots of little shops. The street market seems to be open nearly every day.
