  1. I would have to agree with Rodellete, but for two things.

First one is "Dalmatian language" , for no such thing exists. It is only "ikavica", a dialect in Serbian, or Croatian language. (although Croatian language is officially recognized, any linguist will tell You the difference between it and Serbian are far less then between American&British English).

The second is - why bringing Latin America into subject, when it was clear that You`ve asked about Europe and Latin nations in it.

No, Greeks are no Latins. (Thank God).

I brate (sestro), ne nasedaj na svaku glupost na odgovorima. Pozdrav.

  2. Latino is a made up word.  There is no such thing.

  3. No, but ancient Greeks had settlements all around the Med, Southern Italy was mainly Greek, and they had a powerful cultural influence on the Romans. Upper class Romans would speak Greek as for instance European aristocrats of past centuries would speak French.

  4. Latino is referred to people who live in central and south america, areas colonised by populations who spoke neo latin languages as spanish and portuguese

Italians, Frenchs and Spanish are only european nationalities

you americans should study better history!

i'm italian and italy was occupied by hundreds ethnic groups come from all over europe (from scandinavia, germany, too) from north africa and asia, thousands years ago.

  5. Latinos are a mixed race of cultures and languages.

  6. The English word Latino (Latina is the feminine form) may have derived from the Spanish word latinoamericano [1] and most often refers to inhabitants of Latin America, and their descendants in the United States. It is the abbreviated use of 'Latin-American'; Francophone Canadians are not normally referred to as Latino, even though they speak a Romance language. A Latino person may be of any race ( Amerindian,White, Black, Asian or Mixed, such as Mestizo, Mulatto or Zambo).

The concept of "Latin America" was coined by the French in the 1800s as a means of legitimizing French influence over the Spanish-speaking countries of the Americas; compare Latin Europe. Napoleon III, cited Amérique Latine and Indochine as goals for expansion during his reign. He proposed the Monarchy in Mexico headed by the Austrian Archduke Maximillian or Maximilian I of Mexico. The term emphasized a common culture and history of the Romance language-speaking countries, as opposed to the Germanic language-speaking countries of "Anglo-America".

The term "Latin Europe" is originally used for four countries around the northwestern Mediterranean Basin (also known as the Latin Arch); Italy, France, Spain (including the Canary Islands) and on the Iberian peninsula (but not on the Mediterranean littoral); Portugal (including the archipelagos of Madeira and the Azores). These countries have a common linguistic background (i.e. their languages are derived from Vulgar Latin) and Roman Catholicism as the prevalent religion. This definition, in a larger sense, also includes smaller political entities of Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, and Vatican City (all of these states are members of the Latin Union except the Holy See that has permanent observer status), along with adjacent Wallonia (in Belgium), Romandy and Italian- and Romansh-speaking Switzerland. Istria county in Croatia and Italian-speaking municipalities of Slovenia, often seen linguistically and culturally integral with neighbouring Italy, and Dalmatia, with its own (now extinct) Romance language Dalmatian, may also be mentioned. On the other hand, in particular contexts, the usage of "Latin Europe" may well be ambiguous such as inclusion of Israel. [1]PDF (222 KiB)

Romania and Moldova both speak Romanian, a Romance language but are located far from the core of Latin Europe, surrounded by "Slavic Europe" and Hungary. However, these countries have shown conscious enthusiasm for recognition as parts of Latin Europe, historically expressed in official regulation of Latin Romanian script in 1860, Romanian spelling reform in 1993, and installation of the Latin script for the Romanian language in Moldova. Both of these countries are, currently, full members of the Latin Union, and Romanian is an official language of that organisation.

  7. No, Greeks are not Latinos, Italians are not Latinos, Spaniards are not Africans and Greeks are not Africans! There aren't any Greeks that look Sudanese! {Please use real facts! There aren't any Greeks with "curly black hair and dark color skin in the islands that look Sudanese!!! (That is not true!!!)}.

Latinos is a term to describe South American populations.

As for “Latin” is a linguistic term that describes languages that have as common ancestor the ancient Latin language. It does not describe national origin!

Italians, Spaniards, French, and Romanian have Latin originated languages but they are not people of the same origin!

But Spanish, Greeks, Italians, and southern French share the same genetic background as described in genetic researches (Southern European/Mediterranean group) (In prehistoric times of course!!!!)!

In The History and Geography of Human Genes (Princeton, 1994), Cavalli-Sforza, Menozzi and Piazza grouped Greeks with other European and Mediterranean populations based on 120 loci . Then, Ayub et al. 2003 did the same thing using 182 loci .

Especially with the Italians the Greek share more genetic background. Don’t forget that modern Italians are descendants of the ancient population that inhabited the Italian peninsula, and that included Etruscans, Romans, Celts, Greeks, and others!

Entire southern Italy and Sicily had a strong Greek presence and that area was known as “magna Grecia” (Great Greece). Even today in Southern Italy in the region of Calabria there are still Italian villages with Greek population! (And they speak a beautiful Greek/Italian dialect which is called Griko !!) That Italian region is called  Grecia Salentina (Salentinian Greece)!!

In National geographic site in the Genographic project (atlas of the human journey) a very good connection is shown:

“Today haplogroup H comprises 40 to 60 percent of the gene pool of most European population. In Rome and Athens for example the frequency of the (haplogroup) H is around 40% percent of the entire population! And it exhibits similar frequencies throughout Western Europe!”

    { National geographic Genographic project (atlas of the human journey) (haplogroup) H}

As you can see Greeks and Italians do share a lot. Southern Europeans in general have similar Genes.

Let me repeat that there aren’t any Greeks that look Sudanese with black curly hair and dark skin!! Greeks have no relation with Africans (beside the fact that all humans has evolved from Africa). The only people with dark skin in Greece are the ones who spend their time sun tuning! And that includes French, German, British, Swedish and other turists and people who work under the Sun!

Please visit Greece and check for yourself!!!

  8. The problems that is and have been devastating to a great number of cultures is the manipulation of their concept of themselves (by"leaders")as a superior culture. An example to clarify the unfounded myth of any such possibility. My heritage is not only Irish in nature but also of the "brown" complexion

of species. Looking at me you would simply say Jamaican or any of those derogatory terms used by people that do not know that they are referring to a member of their past closely related, by parentage of the masculine form. The example? My brother has children with a Purtorican native (woman) the kids of light complexion if re-procreate with a fair complexion (the boys or the girls) the children would take on a newly developed society of people that are completely different in their concept of who or where their origin is. Not to mention that my brother now lives in Purto Rico and speaks better Spanish than most. With the passion and devotion that he has formed you would believe he is originally from the region. Believing that there are some superiority in particular heritage is again unfounded as evolving not evolution has so uniquely designed our past into these uncertain presence, leading into the future. Final: My imploring plea is that the clear message, be set, that we must dispel with the implications that is reference to by diverse cultures being “that their culture has plans to dominate the various or particular nation for survival due to prehistoric belief in 'survival  of the fittest'." It is unwarranted from any of the standing so said "nations". The need for domination is as futile as it is historically genocide. !~CHANT~A~SEALLAH~!

  9. No, Greeks are not latin. Latins are people that speak languages that comes from latin, what is not the case of Greeks. I don't if there is any genetical similarity between Greeks and Italians, but Greeks are not latins. By the way, take care, the word "latino" in English is more used to refer to Latin Americans, otherwise you should use "latin" instead of "latino".
