I have a question about Latin American countries. Do Cubans of african, native american, and spanish descent identify as that in Cuba? For instance, the rapper Pitbull is Cuban and in the U.S. he's considered Latino. In Cuba would Pitbull identify as being white?

  1. I don't care

  2. Black Cubans identify as such. Soledad O'brien will tell you she is part Black Cuban, and Celia Cruz did as well.

P.S. I thought Celia Cruz looked like an ugly Patti Labelle

  3. Are you talking about race or like ethnicity/background? He is a white cuban, so he is white, latino, hispanic, and cuban american, he was born in america, right? If not he is just a white cuban, latino, and hispanic.

Im a white hispanic, latina, mexican-american and In mexico we just call each other mexicans no matter what you skin tone and I think that is how it is in most latin american contries so I would say that for the most part latinos in latin america don't really care to ask your race as much as people do here in the USA. They are much more interested in you nationality/ethnicity. They feel a stronger connection with their country than with their race.

In Mexico we call black latinos "negritos" which when translated into english you might think it sounds offensive but it is not, just like they would call a very light person "guerito". I don't know if you guys ever saw "I love new york" and I think it was a puerto rican guy that called new york "mi negrita" and she took it the wrong way, she shouldn't have! It is not offensive at all, it was actually just a term of indearment.
