  1. their products are environmentally safe

  2. enviromentaly friendly

    biodegradable

    and nonpolluting

  3. They wish to have you do business with them when you care about the environment... even overlook some other problem they may be creating.

It is safe to proclaim oneself 'Green' knowing that nobody can effectively challenge the claim in court.

But there is a risk if one proclaims oneself Green that real Greens will attack you vehemently as a fraud.

However, if a business is prepared to make ammends to retain the business, it is still a welcome indication.

  4. Just another way to get your money if you believe them over their competitor. The movement started when they discovered that some people will not buy unless they think they are "helping" the environment.Frankly I have a problem with that, since I am older than some companies and know they are the same.

  5. Their products are becoming environmentally safe and they also want to try promote "greeness" into their consumers.

  6. The film, "An Inconvenient Truth" seemed to spark the fad of being 'Green'.  The stars of Hollywood said it was cool, so therefore "we" think it's cool and now you see it on everything from fashion to commercials.  As far as corporations jumping on the bandwagon, many of them didn't change much.  Many just proclaimed their ecofriendliness on their commercials to improve their public relations.  One example is the company Waste Management.  Their commercial and web site states that  their renewable energy projects produced enough energy to power more than 1,000,000. homes.  The claim does not say how much power to these homes.  Also notice that they "produced" enough energy; it doesn't state that this is what the energy was used for.  Heck, it could have been used to make more garbage trucks.  Plus, it is a law in many areas for waste removal companies to recycle anyways.  So they may be doing little, if anything new, to be more "Green".

As far as all the celebs, I don't think they are being that green when it comes to private charter flights, 20 room mansions with enormous heated pools (many celebs have at least two homes), the materials to make these homes,  10 cars in the driveway with two being gas-guzzling hummers, probably not riding their bikes to work or car-pooling or riding public transportation, and dare I mention the hot air that comes out of many of their own mouths.  Others (including businesses) do it because their accountant tells them that their actions and donations can be used as credits and deductions.  Now not all the celebs are like this.  There are many ordinary folk who claim to be green but not at the expense of their modern conveniences...

  7. It's just a fad. Something that people can buy to make themselves feel better about there false guilt. It will end eventually.
