Lauderdale Yacht Club set to host 2011 Melges 32 Gold Cup – Sailing news
Top International Melges 32 Class teams are looking forward to 2011 Melges 32n Gold Cup regatta, which will be organised and hosted by the Lauderdale Yacht Club (LYC) in Fort Lauderdale
(FL). The regatta will be an ideal opportunity for the 20-boat fleet to make their mark on the face of International Melges 32 Class standings.
The fleet will be steering south, under some warmer forecast, which will greet the sailors with the most challenging weather conditions in the world, for three solid days. It will be a
tough task to sail under these conditions and the teams must be aware of that.
The upcoming Gold Cup regatta will also trigger the 2012 international racing calendar, as it the first event of the three-part Midwinter Championship Series.
World’s top 20 Melges 32 teams will be competing on Fort Lauderdale waters. The top dogs include the World Championship runner-up, John Kilroy on Samba Pa Ti with Vasco Vascotto on tactics,
2011 Copa Del Rey and current U.S. National Champion, Jason Carroll on Argo team along with tactician, Cameron Appleton, and Audi Sailing Series Champion, Lanfranco Cirillo, on Fantastica with tactics from Michele Paoletti.
The 2011 Melges 32 North American Champion, Ryan DeVos, on Volpe along with the crew members like tactician, Ed Baird, Steve Howe on Warpath and Morgan Larson will set sail again to grab
another title. On the other hand, two-time Gold Cup Champion, Rod Jabin, sailing on Ramrod with 2011 World Champion, Chris Larson, calling the tactics will also take on the challenge.
