Swansea City, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Laudrup, has admitted that his side were beaten by a better team, following their 1-0 loss at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
The South http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 outfit defended resolutely to keep the Tottenham Hotspur attackers at bay, and held the hosts to 0-0 at halftime.
However, a 75th minute strike from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jan-Vertonghen-c17814 was enough to hand AVB’s men all three points, pushing them up to the fourth place in the Premier League’s standings.
The margin of their defeat, though, might not be the true depiction of the events which transpired on the field, as the Spurs were by far the stronger of the teams on the day. All in all, they peppered the Swans goal with 29 shots, while their opponents
failed to hit a single shot on target throughout the fixture.
The defeat pushed Swansea down to the 10th place – six points behind the Champions League spot. It was also their second loss on the bounce, having also lost to Norwich City 4-3 last week.
Commenting on the result, Laudrup feels that his side were undone by a strong opposition.
The Dane said that he was wary of the tough visit of White Hart Lane even before the match, and refused to vituperate the players for the lacklustre showing.
Instead, he was more inclined towards dwelling on the positives, claiming that they gave the hosts a real run for the money during the first half.
“It was a combination of us not be at our best and Spurs playing very well, you have to give them credit. Spurs played a risky game in the first half with lots of players forward and moving around and it is not easy to defend against that,” he told the reporters.
“But in the first half I thought the first 15 minutes were very good from us, then as expected they put us under a bit of pressure.”
The Swans are now eight points clear of the drop zone after 17 matches. They next face the daunting task of facing league leaders, Manchester United, at the Liberty Stadium this coming Sunday.
