The Danish legend has expressed his delight over the Swans’ victory over the Boro in the quarter-final of Capital One Cup, while insisting that it was an extremely hard fought cup game.
Swansea City head coach, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Laudrup, was extremely pleased to see his side book a place in the semi-final of Capital One Cup following a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough at Liberty Stadium on Wednesday, December 12.
The 48-year-old tactician, who took the reins of the Swans before the start of the 2012/13 season, was unable to hide his delight over reaching the semi-final of the competition.
“It’s fantastic to reach a semi-final. I asked all the players before the game if any of them had played in a cup final, and no one had. Everyone can be proud that we are in the semi-finals, but when you are there you want to go the next step and be in the final”, Laudrup said while talking to the media.
Both sides enjoyed couple of decent goalscoring opportunities, but neither of the two managed to hit the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes. After the half-time break, the home side resumed proceedings brightly, and enjoyed lion’s share of ball possession.
However, they had to wait until the 81st minute to grab the lead, and that too from a fortunate own goal, when Sebastian Hines put the ball into his own net, which was eventually enough for the Swans to claim the victory at the end of 90 minutes.
Laudrup admitted after the game that it was an extremely hard fought game, while insisting that his side deserved to emerge victorious after putting in a dazzling show in the second-half.
“It was a very tight game. Everybody had the right attitude, everybody wanted to win, but I think Middlesbrough wanted it too much [in the first-half]. They put pressure on us, but in the second half we came out and played much, much better. We were more relaxed and took control of the game”, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 player concluded.
Swansea City, who are currently sitting eighth in the Premier League standings, will lock horns against Tottenham Hotspur in their upcoming league game on December 16.
