Swansea City manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Laudrup, was all praise for his side, following their goalless stalemate against Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday.
The South http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 outfit weathered a flurry of attacks from the visitors during the opening period. A couple of good saves from Gerhard Tremmel and a touch of good fortune allowed them to share the honours in a match which could easily have gone the visitors’
way.
The draw pushed Laudrup’s men up to the ninth place in the current league standings, having mustered 17 points from their 13 games. It also kept them ahead of Liverpool in the EPL’s pecking order this campaign by a margin of single point.
After seeing his side chalk out their first clean sheet since August, the 48-year-old Dane could not help but praise his side’s performance against a team like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809.
The manager said playing against the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steven-Gerrard-c34196 and Luis Suarez was not easy for any team. Even though he admitted that Rodgers’ unit had overall dominated the proceedings, he lauded his side for standing their ground and to come out of the
fixture unscathed.
“I think it was a good point, I think we deserved that point,” he told the reporters.
“You know when you play against [Luis] Suarez and [Steven] Gerrard they can always invent something, but I think we handled it well.”
The Swansea skipper, Ashley Williams, had set the tone for the fixture by labelling the Reds hit-man, Suarez, as a ‘diver’ and a player he hated playing against in his book which was released just at the eve of the fixture.
Although his remarks might have flared the tempers in the Reds dugout, there was no such manifestation on the field, as the match just witnessed a single yellow card.
Nonetheless, Laudrup insisted that his side were more focused on keeping the striker at bay, rather than involving themselves in any kind of controversy.
He also heaped praise on them for keeping him quiet for a good portion of the match.
“Suarez did some good things, but maybe less than he is used to as he played against two guys who did very well,” he added.
