Swansea City manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Laudrup, believes that his side’s poor finishing cost them the match against Aston Villa, but was satisfied with their overall performance.
The Welsh club were beaten 2-0 at Villa Park on Saturday. Matthew Lowton and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Benteke-c9056 scored a goal apiece to consign the Swans to their first defeat in the league this season.
However, Laudrup’s men did receive their share of opportunities, and could easily have scored a goal or two at least in the game.
Nathan Dyer could have put the visiting side ahead in the early stages of the game, but saw two of his shots get denied by the Villans shot stopper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brad-Guzan-c7954.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Graham then came agonizingly close to grabbing in equalizer just at the stroke of half time. However, his shot went just inches over the goal.
After keeping the Swans attackers at bay for a considerable period of the game, the hosts started to dominate the proceedings in the closing stages and sealed the game through Benteke, who punished a defensive error from Ashley Williams to bag his side’s
second goal.
Nonetheless, the Dane was eager to pick up positives from the match.
He praised his side for creating a handful of opportunities, and felt that on any other day, they would have run away with all three points from a similar performance.
“I can't say that I'm disappointed because I thought we played well,” he told the reporters.
“Five minutes before they scored we could have taken the lead through Nathan and then they score with a fantastic goal. Until the last 20 minutes we tried to play the way we are used to, but then we had to take more risks going forward.”
The defeat on Saturday was the Swans first, after their remarkable start to the season.
Earlier, they recorded heavy wins against Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 and West Ham United, and secured a hard-fought draw against Sunderland.
Laudrup admitted that Swansea will suffer more defeats as the term progresses, but underscored that they will give it their all in each and every game.
“We will always be competitive. We know we are going to lose games during the season, but we will always fight until the end,” he added.
