Swansea City manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Laudrup, was satisfied with his side’s 1-1 draw against Southampton at the Saint Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.
The hosts, who were pitted at the bottom of the table before the match, went ahead in the 64th minute. Morgan Schneiderlin tucked the ball in for an easy finish after collecting a long ball inside the 18 yards box.
However, substitute, Nathan Dyer, obliterated the lead nine minutes later, as he punished a poor lapse in concentration from the Saints defenders.
The draw lifted the Saints from the table’s nadir to the nineteenth spot, while allowing the Swans to retain their grip on the eleventh place.
All in all, Nigel Adkins’ unit looked the better of the two teams at the weekend, creating a handful of opportunities and flustering the Swans backline with a strong attacking intent.
They peppered 16 shots at the Swansea goal, as compared to just 7 from their opponents and won 10 corners during the course of the match.
Nonetheless, Laudrup insisted that his team deserved to get a point at least from the fixture.
He confessed that they were being outplayed for larger portions of the game, but praised them for hanging in there and making the most of the opportunity that they got.
“To be honest, I think in the first half we passed the ball around really well,” he told the reporters.
“Then in the second half it's true that Southampton put us under pressure [with] very direct play and you could see they wanted and needed the win.”
The visitors looked comfortable in the defence and midfield, but struggled to punch any holes in the Saints rearguard. Michu, in particular, looked off colour as the Spanish International still seems to be struggling in his new striker’s role.
The Liberty Stadium chief observed that his side could not come up with the end product despite being involved in some eye-catching sweeping moves.
“We lacked that five per cent when we arrived in the last third of the pitch. You know that last pass in between the lines or that one-on-one,” he added.
The Welsh outfit will next play Newcastle United at the Sports Direct Arena on Saturday.
