Swansea City manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Laudrup, thinks that his side’s next weekend game against Southampton carries more importance for them than the one on Saturday against Chelsea.
The South http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Di Matteo’s side at the Liberty Stadium, who are currently at the summit of the Premier League table.
Laudrup’s men will go into the game high on confidence after their emphatic 3-1 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in a League Cup fixture during the midweek. They will be looking to further derail the Blues charge, who last week suffered a demoralizing defeat at home to
Manchester United.
A win on Saturday will put the Swans in the better half of the table. So far, they have managed 11 points from their 9 league games.
Although the Liberty Stadium chief was fully focused on the Chelsea match, he believes that his side’s next game against the struggling Saints will be of more significance.
The 48-year old explained that it was important for them to secure maximum points against the weaker oppositions, as the Premier League’s big guns will be difficult to take down.
“We play Southampton after this, and that is the more important game I think,” he told the reporters.
“Of course I want to win both games, but if you said I can only pick one, I would pick Southampton because that is the more important game for us to win.”
Laudrup might be more concerned about the team’s results against weaker clubs, but that does not mean that the Welsh outfit will be an easy pushover for the Blues.
The Swans put up a resilient show at the Etihad Stadium last week and were at their scintillating best in their 3-1 triumph over Liverpool at Anfield.
The manager pointed out that when taking on the bigger clubs, teams have got the spark and determination to prove their mettle and their nothing-to-lose attitude, at times, works to their advantage.
“When smaller teams play the big clubs, they think 'We know they are better than us, so we have to be 100 per cent in everything we do — if not they will just destroy us,” he added.
