Swansea City manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Laudrup, has urged his side to replicate the fighting spirit they displayed against Reading in their previous game when they play host to Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
The South Wales outfit trailed 2-0 at the end of first half in their last match before the international break, before rallying to squeeze out a point.
The draw kept them in the eleventh place in the current league standings, and also brought to a halt their dismal sequence of three defeats on the trot. At the moment, they have 8 points from their 7 games.
It has been topsy-turvy sailing for the Swans since the start of the campaign. After recording massive wins in their opening two fixtures, their performance has plummeted significantly, rekindling the debate of their chances to survive in the English top-flight.
However, the 48-year old Dane was confident that his side will be able to arrest their poor form.
He called upon them to emulate their fighting performance against the Royals in their previous match and said that it was imperative that his defenders keep the Latics attackers at bay.
“I hope we can continue the performance we showed against Reading. The way we came back was really great and we were fantastic in that second half - always creating chances,” he told the reporters in an interview.
“But we also have to try and stop the opposition scoring goals, particularly in the first half of games.”
Swansea have only lost one of their four league games at the Liberty Stadium this term. Wigan’s last visit to south http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 saw them play out a goalless draw, back in August, 2011.
Since the Latics themselves are involved in a mid-table battle, Laudrup insisted their fixture on Saturday carried all the more importance as it will be against one of their table ‘rivals’.
“For me, results against the teams in and around us are very important because you are coming up against a direct rival… we are at home on Saturday and we want to win the game,” he said.
Wigan currently occupies the fifteenth spot in the table.
