Swansea City manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Laudrup, has revealed that Garry Monk will continue to captain the team for as long as he is at the Liberty Stadium.
The English International, who has remained a long-time servant of the Swans, currently faces an uncertain future at the Welsh club, even though he has represented Swansea at all the levels en route to their promotion from the Football League Two to the Premier League.
At the moment, the defender is yet to make an appearance for his team this season.
Consequently, Monk has been heavily linked with a possible move away from the Liberty Stadium in January. According to some reports, Bristol City are currently keeping close tabs on him, and the player himself is contemplating making a switch in order to get more first-team action.
In the defender’s absence, Laudrup has currently assigned the captains role to Ashley Williams.
However, the 48-year-old Dane revealed that he has no plans of permanently relieving Monk from his captaincy. Instead, the former Mallorca boss mentioned that he will continue to lead the team for as long as he is with the Swansea, and he will only hand over the captain’s armband to someone else once he decides to leave.
“For me, while he is here, Garry will be the captain,” he said.
“He is captain of the club and when he plays he will be captain of the team. But when he does not play, it’s Ashley and so on.”
Given that the manager will be without the services of Chico Flores and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kyle-Bartley-c21555, who are set to miss the Swans next game against Aston Villa due to suspension and injury respectively, Monk might get a green signal for a place in the starting eleven.
However, the player is reported to be suffering from a stiff back, and is more likely to make a return in his team’s Capital One Cup fixture against Crawley on 25th of September.
Speaking to the reporters about the Englishman’s future, Laudrup said it was totally up to the player whether he wants to continue playing for the club or not.
He further added that he was currently more concerned about his back injury, and refused to say anything for sure as to whether he will feature against the Villans or not.
