Laugh Out Loud in for her straight second graded success through the Coronation Stakes at Ascot
Trainer Mick Channon has locked down his chances of winning the Group 1 Coronation Stakes (British Champions Series) with two of his best fillies, Samitar and Laugh Out Loud. Competing along with them on Friday, 22nd June at the Ascot over a mile are ten other commendable candidates.
Both his entries share similar odds, 5/1. Riding with the champion jockey, Frankie Dettori, who just won the Ascot Gold Cup yesterday, is Laugh Out Loud, Clodovil’s three-year-old grey filly out of mare, Funny Girl. Out of the six races that she undertook in the debut season, in four she was the first one to race through the wire. The rate of course is enviable.
The Norman Court Stud bred was through her maiden on 16th February at Kempton over a mile. It took her a second try to win but then when she did win, she was the ½ favourite.
She then grabbed the very next race which was a conditions stakes on 7th April at Kempton over a mile. Riding with William Buick, she led the runner up, Way Too Hot, by a length.
The 3/1 favourite of the race, Witnessed, ended sixth on the track of ten.
Her fourth race of the career, the Group 1 1000 Guineas, had her finishing eighth on the field of seventeen contestants. The race was won by the Aidan O’Brien trained, Homecoming Queen, while her stable mate, Maybe, finished third.
All three of them are to collide again today with some doubts about the participation of Maybe.
The three-year-old was the proud 2/1 favourite winner of a listed race on 18th May at York over a mile. Finishing the closest and adrift by a length was Electrelane while filling up the third slot was Hello Glory.
Not only was her very next race a graded one rather it was celebrated as a first graded win for the Mick Channon trained.
Laugh Out Loud won the Group 2 Prix De Sandringham on 3rd June at Chantilly over a mile. She led the runner up of the race, Mashoora, by two lengths while the 3/1 favourite, Topeka, concluded the race seventh on the track of nine.
Her success today will not only get her into an altogether different league but will also entitle her to a hat trick in which two wins will be from graded races.
She has the best jockey and the most built up momentum for the race thus there is hardly anything that can become an excuse for failure. Hawking her down the track will be her stable mate, Samitar and the 1000 Guineas champion, Homecoming Queen.
