Question:

Launchcast Distortion?

All my music in Lauchcast is highly distorted, sounds like it's coming from a long way away and is very tinny. I managed to fix it once with help with yahoo, had to set the feed to http only, which was actually the opposite of what they reccomended, but when I looked for other options in the windows media it turns out I don't seem to have any that are actually available. Anyway somehow it fixed the problem, but now it is back, and I liked to listen to the music as it was meant to sound rather than as if it was filtering through several walls to get to me. Any ideas?

Oh, and this effect happens in both lauchcast itself and in the plug in for messenger.

  1. Try an experiment.  Create a new Yahoo id.  See what happens under 3 cases, Launchcast Radio under Internet Explorer, Launchcast Radio under YMJ and Messenger.  If you still experience the tinny sound all I can say is check for updated audio drivers for you sound card (or integrated sound chip).  You can do that by going to Windows Update and click Custom and see what hardware updates are available.  Also you can click Start->Run and enter dxdiag and OK.  There are tabs for DirectX Sound.  Listen to the sound.  If everything is good now, go back to your original Yahoo id and if you are still getting tinny sound and you are a Launchcast Plus or Yahoo Music Unlimited user, then Y! uses different code to process the music.  You would have to get in touch with Yahoo to get a possible resolution.

The dxdiag verification failure was because you entered "no" to one of the sound tests.  Did the sound and music tests under dxdiag appear ok to your ears?  If they didn't, you might think about turning off hardware acceleration.  I'm not sure what is going on.  You might try this Microsoft download:

  2. Dude, did you try updating your Windows Media Player to WMP 11?  What's going on with your sound controls.  Do you have Wave set at reasonable volume.  Do you have all your audio settings under Windows Media Player set to normal.  What happens when you play radio (streaming music) or regular songs under WMP.  What happens under Itunes or Real Player?
