Question:

Laundering net curtains.........?

Ok, I have a four poster bed, which I embellished with net cafe curtains.

Top half of curtaining around the top and bottom half placed where vallance frill goes.

I have washed them once, by soaking in the bath etc, (but very tedious and felt they could have been cleaner).

My question is, could I possibly get away with washing them on a gentle cycle in the machine?

I would put them in pillowcases to avoid tangling.

There are 8 lengths and heaps of length, for more pleating effect.

They are made of white Boston lace and I would hate to spoil them, as they were very expensive and I can't afford to replace them.

I would appreciate your honest answers and opinions, products etc.

I am prepared to do the bath thing, but it is the first day of Spring on Monday and I am in the mood to clean everything and quickly (it's not a hobby lol).

Many thanks in advance.

  1. I am not familiar with Boston Lace but it seems that if it is made of any cotton, washable silk, polyester, or anything other than linen the following would apply.  Yes, your answer to the problem should work fine as long as they are not made of a very OLD lace. Old lace would be far too delicate for the washing machine.  I would try a touch of bleach in the wash too.  Not too much because it does tend to wear down fabrics the more you use it.
