Laundry: Furniture set covers? OK to machine wash?

I can't find any tags on my furniture set (green love seat, 2 seat sofa, 3 seat couch, ottoman) regarding cleaning. I bought the set used, and can't get in contact with the original owner. The cushions have zippers that allow you to separate the covers from the soft part. Is it OK to put this in a washing machine with cold water? I assume I have to hang them to dry when they're done...

wash them in cold water you can also place them in mesh laundry bags to avoid scratching the washer , if they are cotton hang to dry if you put them in the drier they will shrink.

Probably not.  The zippers on upholstry covers are there to put them on the cushions, not to take them off and wash them.  You might be able to have them cleaned, but the cleaner would probably ask you to sign a waiver not holding him responsible if they shrink or the colors run.  I would try to use upholstry cleaner first, the kind you spray on, wait, then vaccuum.  There are people who do this professionally, like Sears.
