  1. After a certain amount of time, the detergent builds up in your washer.  I would run a Heavy Cycle with Hot water and Bleach without any clothes.  When that is done, repeat this again but use 2 cups of White Vinegar instead of the bleach.  If you have a front loader, try and leave the door open after you are done doing laundry.  The front loaders, leave behind a little bit of water in the front lip causing a mildew smell after a while.  Leaving the door open when you can will help it dry out.

If that doesnt work, I found a product online called 'Smelly Washer'.  I saw some online reviews for it and people seem to really like it.  I posted a question a few days ago on here asking if anyone has used it, but I havent received any feedback yet.  I was looking into getting it because I am notorious for leaving a load of towels in the washer for too long and they end up smelling after a day of not getting dried.  This product allows you to use it to fix a smelly washer in general or to remove the smell from a load of laundry as well.  It's very reasonable in price, too.
