Laura Aleida Sanchez pockets Women's 3m Springboard gold: Day three – 2011 Pan American Games
Pan American Games gold medallist Laura Aleida Sanchez of Mexico dictated terms to her competitors in the Women's 3m Springboard final on third day of the diving events at the 2011 Pan American Games. The session completed on Friday, October 28 at Scotiabank Aquatics Center in Guadalajara, Mexico.
The twenty six year old Sanchez qualified as the second best diver in the final round behind American athlete Cassidy X Krug. The two of them demonstrated their exhausting effort in the final round as they had their sight affixed on the finest qualification spot.
Despite of her strong determination, Krug failed to answer relentless efforts of the Mexican diver, who went rampant in the 3m playoff. With her astonishing efforts, Sanchez smothered hopes of her strongest rival in the final round and captured gold medal of the event with an astounding sore of 374.60 points.
Sanchez is one of the strongest divers of Mexican team as she won the bronze medal of Springboard synchronized event 2003 World Championships. The same year she achieved two silver medals in the Springboard synchronised and platform synchronized events at the Pan American Games.
In 2007, she won a gold medal in the Springboard synchronized discipline while clinched a silver medal in the individual Springboard event at the Pan American Games.
Nevertheless, the gold medallist was trailed by Krug, who remained just 1.95 points behind her and reached the podium for silver medal by accomplishing a total of 372.65 points. Subsequently, the American remained prominently ahead of Sanchez's team-member Paola Espinosa, who was 16.45 points behind her former finisher.
Espinosa stepped on the podium for bronze medal as she achieved a total of 356.20 points. She was followed by Kassidy Leigh Cook of USA, who settled as the fourth finest finisher by obtaining a score of 348.90 points.
In the meantime, Canada's Jennifer Abel seized fifth best spot as she gained 347.55 points.
The session ended after notable efforts of all finalists of the Women's 3m Springboard. In addition, the winners collected their awards and accolades for their breathtaking efforts after the completion of third day's session.
