Talk about damning with faint praise.

To quote Laura Bush:

"When you've run a city like she has, and run a state like she has .."

Ouch. Wasilla, Alaska, pop. 9,000, can barely be called a "city."

And she has been running a state with a total population smaller than the city of Columbus, Ohio ... for less than half-a-term (less than two years)!

So ... is 'quick learner' the kind of thing you want to hear about a VP choice?

(And please don't tell me that Obama's experience is comparable ... Obama spent 8 years in the Illinois state legislature and 4 in the U.S. Senate as the Senator from Illinois ... Illinois has a population *20 times* the size of Alaska ... heck Chicago alone has twice the population of the entire state of Alaska!)

  1. so much for the Republican's counter arguments on 'learning on the job'. They are willing to let an inexperience person who is a missed heartbeat away from the Presidency learn on the job. If quick learning is all it takes to be the President of the U.S., sign me up for 2012.

  2. That's the kind of thing I want to hear about my 5 year old, frankly.

  3. Yes.  It is certainly better than Obama, who has shown no capability of learning anything.  Even the most neophyte student of economics will recognize that Obama's prescriptions are asinine.

  4. However, Palin has made decisions during her term.  All Obama knows to do is try to be popular with all and vote Present.

  5. No, it obviously should not a comforting statement for the GOP in this case. There are many reasons to question her as a VP choice, and of course some reasons are more important than others, but personally I'm not interested in any elected official that supports teaching creationism in schools (namely if she's referring to a science classroom in a public school). But I suppose if you want a VP choice that increases your electability with conservative evangelical Christians, then Palin is a great choice.

In October of 2006, the Anchorage Daily News reported that Palin said the following about creationism at a debate:

"Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information....Healthy debate is so important and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both. And you know, I say this too as the daughter of a science teacher. Growing up with being so privileged and blessed to be given a lot of information on, on both sides of the subject -- creationism and evolution. It's been a healthy foundation for me. But don't be afraid of information and let kids debate both sides."

  6. She's a quick learner. Great. Better a quick learner that a no learner like Joe Biden. He's been in the Congress since before he had hair plugs and he still doesn't get it.

  7. I AGREE WITH YOU TO A POINT.WHY DID OBAMA PICK BIDEN AS HIS TEACHER?TO TEACH THE STUDENT OF COURSE.SO THE SESAW SWAYS BOTH WAYS MY FRIEND.

  8. How about this ringing "endorsement":

//[Alaska] State Senate President Lyda Green said she thought it was a joke when someone called her at 6 a.m. to give her the news.

"She's not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?" said Green, a Republican from Palin's hometown of Wasilla. "Look at what she's done to this state. What would she do to the nation?"//

  9. I wonder if my VP application is lying around because I am ready to learn the ropes...
