Laura Crockart claims Women’s 800m freestyle gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Laura Crockart of Ryde-Carlile claimed gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle on second day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Thursday, September 13.
Crockart experienced tough competition from her following swimmer in the start but with her unrelenting efforts, she continued her dominance in the second half and earned her way to the top of victory stand for gold medal in a comfortable manner.
The 17-year-old Crockart remained in a considerable lead over her toughest challenger and reached the wall for gold medal with an effort of 8 minutes and 21.93 seconds.
Crockart was chased by Alanna Bowles of Rocky City, who stayed nearly nine seconds behind and completed her swim in a time of 8 minutes and 30.57 seconds for silver medal.
The silver medallist was traced by Kareena Lee of Mountain Creek, who stayed two and a half body length behind and captured bronze medal of the swim by touching the wall with an effort of 8 minutes and 33.11 seconds.
Fourth best spot of the race was obtained by Mikka Sheridan of Chandler, QLD, who stayed 1.68 seconds slower from her former finisher and emerged on the finishing end with a timing of 8 minutes and 34.79 seconds.
Subsequently, Sheridan was traced by Leah Cutting of Norwood, SA, who stayed considerably slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 8 minutes and 38.61 seconds.
Sixth finest spot of the race was obtained by Iris Matthey-Jaquet of Sydney Uni, NSW, who stayed nearly five seconds behind and hit the wall with a timing of 8 minutes and 43.73 seconds.
Matthey-Jaquet remained in a lead of one body length over Erin Killey of Hunter, NSW, who occupied seventh position of the event with a timing of 8 minutes and 44.65 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was obtained by Kate Hofmeyer of Burnside, SA, who was prominently away from Killey and clocked an effort of 8 minutes and 47.49 seconds.
In addition, Crockart was contented with her gold finish in the race and collected her medal after the event.
