Laura Davies a strong contender at Hero Women’s Indian Open 2012
English Laura Davies is one of the few contenders who are able to steal the show at the upcoming Hero Women’s Indian Open 2012.
Davies won the 2010 edition of the Hero Women’s Indian Open in grand fashion, but she has set her sights on the 2012 event with an aim to become the victor.
The three-round tournament is scheduled for November 30th to December 2nd, at the DLF Golf & Country Club, New Delhi, India.
It remains to be seen how the English golfer is going to crush stars like Swedish Caroline Hedwall, who is the defending champion of the tournament.
Davies, who is one of the most accomplished golfers on the LET (Ladies European Tour), but she has been a bit troubled her form in the last two years.
The 2010 season went better than most of Davies’s critics had anticipated as she managed to rack up five titles. However, since her last victory in India, she has been battling her lacklustre
form and trying to fix flaws in her game.
Overall, the English star has done better than most of her rivals. Joining the Tour in 1988, Davies has grabbed a total of 45 LET title so far—something that has helped her eclipse the fame
of big names like Scottish Catriona Matthew.
Moreover, she has also got her feet wet with the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour. Having won 20 events so far, the 49-year-old veteran stands among top-ranked Tour stars,
despite the fact that she has had her eye more on the LET than the LPGA.
Since Asian stars have an edge over their European rivals in India, Davies is wary and knows how to tackle the pressure.
Yani Tseng of Taiwan won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2007. Then Thai Pornanong Phatlum won two events in a row in 2008 and 2009.
Davies has been aware of Asian talent and has often appreciated how the rising stars are giving a tough time to American contenders both on the LET and LPGA.
“They (Asians) are different from American women, quiet. They would never say that they are about to win. But they subordinate everything to success,” Davies said during one of her interviews.
