Laura Davies falters in the first round of the Ladies' Irish Open
Laura Davies has not been able to please her fans in the first round of the Ladies' Irish Open. She started the event in the 26th place and by the end of the first round she had fallen to 27th place with a score of 74.
Davies was very excited about the Ladies' Irish Open. She considered it a part of the chain of golf events that will put England back on the international golf map.
Talking about her vision, earlier she said, “I am playing in the Ladies Irish Open at Killeen Castle this week, but it is a very special time for the country and I hope that the festivities carry over to the ISPS Handa Ladies British Masters, which will
give sports fans a taste of what’s to come in Rio in four years time”.
When the round started, both fans and experts were looking forward to see England’s premier golfer in action. However, the whole round was a serious disappointment for them.
Not only did Davies play a below average game, but she also managed to finish the round with a deficit that is very difficult to overcome in the coming rounds.
Davies scored a bogey on the very first round. This beginning pretty much decided the rest of the round. Although, she managed to score a birdie on the very next hole, the fans were not appeased.
Three consecutive bogeys on holes 4, 5 and 6 added to the already rising score. She finished the front nine with a birdie on the seventh hole.
Fans and commentators were very unsure about Davies’s performance on the back nine. With four bogeys already on the scorecard, her chances looked bleak. She started the back nine on a great note. Two birdies on the 11th and 12th holes
gave her and the fans some confidence.
However, she immediately lost the advantage by shooting two bogeys on the very next 13th and 14th holes. At this point, fans had all but given up. Davies shot an eagle on the 15th hole. This was again offset by a double bogey
on the 16th hole.
Laura Davies still has three rounds to prove that she is still the great player that she used to be.
