Laura Davies makes a strong comeback, finishes 3rd
Laura Davies staged a surprise at the Ladies Irish Open and finished the event in the third place, with a score of 213. She missed the first place by four strokes.
Davies played an unremarkable game in the first two rounds. Many experts had written her off and instead focused on the tussle between Catriona Matthew and Suzann Pettersen. Davies shot through the ranks in the final round and finished in the third place.
The first round saw Davies playing a miserable 74 points. She started the round with a bogey but scored a birdie on the second hole. She then shot three bogeys on the 4th, 5th and the 6th hole. A birdie on the 7th
hole failed to undo the damage.
The back nine showed off Davies’ skills. In addition to an eagle on the 15th hole, she scored two birdies on 11th and 12th hole. However, this great performance was marred by two bogeys on the 13th and the 14th
hole.
The second round was an improvement with a score of 71. She sank a bogey on the second hole but shot two birdies on the 7th and the 9th hole. She maintained this form and shot two birdies on the 14th and the 15th
hole.
Laura Davies really shined in the final round. Although she started it with a bogey on the first hole, she scored two consecutive birdies on the 3rd and the 4th hole.
She immediately shot a bogey on the 5th hole. Three back-to-back birdies on holes 7, 8 and 9 rounded off the front nine.
The back nine of the final round also saw action. Davies played all pars till the 13th hole where she scored a birdie. Another birdie on the 15th hole added a point to her score. However, this was lost by the bogey on the 16th
hole. The final score was 68 points.
Laura Davies was very enthusiastic about the event. Even before the start of the event, she said that she was very glad that major golf events were being held in England.
According to her, these events will go a long way in making England the preferred golf destination of the world.
