Laura Davies off to decent start in Dubai
English Laura Davies displayed a decent performance in the first round of Omega Dubai Ladies Masters 2012, as she posted a 71 on Wednesday.
Davies is among the most experienced players in the roster of four-day tournament being played at Dubai, United Arab Emirates, but there are several other players who are also able to clinch
a victory.
The English star, who vowed to do her best at the season-ending battle in her latest interview, could not get off to a fast start, but she is capable of improving her standing in the next
three rounds as she has enough time to adjust to the course and weather conditions.
Davies started the round on the back nine, which proved beneficial. Having parred the 10th hole, the veteran golfer shot a birdie on the difficult par-3 11th. She then
parred the next six holes, but faltered on the last hole, carding a bogey.
On the front nine, Davies picked up pace and boosted her score with the help of two birdies. She, however, tainted her scorecard with a bogey on the difficult par-3 4th.
Commentators said that the first round was interesting in the sense that most of the top-ranked LET (Ladies European Tour) contenders could not get off to a good start, and lesser-known stars
seized most of the positions in the top 20.
Other key stars include Spanish Carlota Ciganda and German Caroline Masson who are trying to win money title for the 2012 season.
Ciganda appears to be in a much stronger position and her chances to win the money battle are brighter than Masson’s—as she is currently leading the ISPS Handa Order of Merit 2012.
On the other hand, Masson is standing at the second spot on the money list, but she needs to finish the tournament inside the top 3 in order to win the accolade.
Ciganda expressed her confidence in her game during her latest interview, saying she is in high spirits and will try to remain in contention till the last moment of the tournament.
“I'm very happy to be here because I really like the course, all of the people here. The food is really good, and the course is amazing,” the Spanish golfer said.
