Laura Davies outside top 20 in France
English Laura Davies was one of the most experience contenders at the Lacoste Ladies Open De France 2012, but her performance was below average this time. She posted an overall 279 to tie for the 22nd position on the leaderboard.
Davies might not have been expected to shine at the prestigious tournament, held at Chantaco Golf Club, Aquitaine, France.
Nevertheless, given her vast experience both on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) and LET (Ladies European Tour), her fans were convinced she would do something amazing last week.
However, when the time came for the English star to show her real skills on the course, she came slightly under pressure, as she could not get off to a solid start.
Having carded a 72 in the opening round, Davies failed to put her rivals under pressure and missed several good chances to score well.
Commentators said that Davies could have capitalised on the calm weather and favourable course conditions on Thursday, but her strokes lacked precision, causing her to shoot several bogeys in four rounds.
The opening round saw the 49-year-old besieged by mixed emotions as she carded five birdies, one eagle, two bogeys and three double bogeys.
Commentators said that Davies played a natural game on some holes, which also included an eagle on the par-5 7th, but she also let her nerves overcome her on some of the easy holes, missing a chance to score.
The second round was a little better, but it also did not come without bogeys. She registered five birdies and four bogeys to post a 69.
Observers said that Davies has spent years on the course and boasts a profile most of the LET stars seek.
However, the golfing sensation harbours a completely different thought when it comes to young guns who have literally hijacked both LET and LPGA, leaving players like Davies struggling on the course.
Davies said in one of her recent interviews that she does not care how young the top players are and how veterans have been sidelined lately, because she just likes to focus on her game and this is all that matters to her.
“I am a little different. I don't play any role; I just play golf. I love the competition. For me, the pleasure begins on Thursday morning when a tournament starts. I come along and try to win. And that's what I enjoy,” she shared.
