Laura Davies underperforms in Dubai yet again
The Englishwoman, Laura Davies had hoped for a better result than she carded as the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters came to an end.
The four-day tournament in Dubai attracted the top players on the Ladies European Tour.
Davies played an average tournament and that reflected on her scorecard. The Englishwoman was never in a position to threaten the top players on the leaderboard.
In her first round, she carded an unconvincing one-under 71. She followed suit in the second round and carded another one-under.
The third round was a different story for the Englishwoman, as she gave her best performance on the third day of the Dubai-based tournament. She made seven birdies.
The birdies came in at a crucial stage as she would have otherwise gone down way below the leaderboard. The sole bogey in her third round came on the 14th hole.
After her third round, Davies was expected to put a similar kind of a performance on the fourth round but she could not come up to the same level of play as she exhibited a day earlier.
It was a disappointing finish for the seasoned Englishwoman, as she carded her worst performance of the tournament on the last day.
She managed to shoot a 72. The three birdies she made on the last day were overshadowed by the three bogeys she made.
Overall it was not a performance that Davies would like to brag about, she knew what she was up against and had to deliver the goods but she failed to do so.
Davies is the golf ambassador in Dubai. She had hoped to rise up to the challenge and win the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters. It was her sixth appearance in the lucrative tournament.
Last year, the pioneer of women’s golf in the U.K., Davies, failed to make the cut. It was a comparatively better show by her this time around.
Before the start of the Dubai-based tournament Davies stated, “If you look at my performance in Dubai, I think I have done well and look forward to improving on that record”.
She continued, “I'm hitting the ball really well. I just need to hole more putts which is paramount to winning. Hopefully, I will be able to do that and end the season strongly”.
