Laura Enever and Pauline Ado make it through Round 2 at Nike US Open of Surfing
Australia’s Laura Enever and France’s Pauline Ado recovered well from a Round 1 loss after claiming victory in their respective Round 2 heats at the Nike US Open of Surfing, the final stop on the 2012 Women’s Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World
Championship Tour, which continued at the main event site of Huntington Beach in California, America, on Wednesday, August 1.
Enever took the win over France’s Justine Dupont in the fifth heat to secure her spot in the third round of the competition while removing the latter from the contention for the coveted event title.
The sixth heat saw Australia’s Rebecca Woods completely succumb to a solid performance by Ado, consequently finding herself eliminated from the competition while the latter stepped into the next round to continue her pursuit of the event title and better
position on the ASP Women’s World Rankings.
The one-to-three foot waves breaking at Huntington Beach on the latest day of the competition promised plenty of exciting action as the elite ASP female surfers sought to extend their life in the event by making it through the second round.
The fifth heat pitted Enever and Dupont against each other in a battle for the Round 3 spot. After failing to clinch success in the opening round, both the surfers found themselves standing on the edge with one final chance of keeping themselves alive in
contention for the event title.
As the battle got underway, Enever opened her account with a 4.50-point ride and soon added an additional 6.17 points to her account, thus moving to a heat-total of 10.67 points.
Dupont responded with a 4.83 off her first business-wave a mere 3.00 off her second business-wave, consequently finishing with a heat-total of 7.83 points. The effort did not turn out to be enough, thus causing her to concede victory to her rival.
The final heat of Round 2 featured a pretty one-sided battle between Ado and Woods, with the French surfer pretty much controlling the momentum of the heat since the word go.
Getting off to an energetic start, Ado went through a series of average-to-decent scores before posting a 6.33 on the scoreboard halfway through the heat. She soon managed to back it up with an impressive 7.17-point ride, thus moving to a two-wave total
of 13.50 points.
Woods struggled to find her rhythm throughout the course of the battle and only got to a heat-total of 6.54 points, which included a 2.37 and 4.17-point ride. As a result, she found herself surrendering victory to Ado, sending the latter into the third round.
