Laura Enever defeats Silvana Lima to enter Roxy Pro Gold Coast Semi-finals – Surfing News
Australia’s Laura Enever got the better of Brazil’s Silvana Lima in the second Quarter-final of Roxy Pro Gold Coast that went down at the renowned Surfer Rocks in Queensland, Australia, on Tuesday, February 28.
The crucial victory served to add Enever to the Semi-finals line-up while removing her competitor from the contention for the event title.
The Australian surfer had been in a sensational form since the start of the first of seven stops on the 2012 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Tour. The conditions prevailing at the primary event site had not been the most ideal, but
she had managed to utilise her local knowledge of the waves effectively to put on a series of smooth and stylish performances.
She was up against the best female surfers from around the world, which included the likes of the 2011 ASP World Champion Carissa Moore and four-time ASP World Champion Stephanie Gilmore, but that hardly kept her from becoming one of the biggest stand-outs
in the competition so far.
After a confident victory in the third round, Enever had made her way straight into the Quarter-finals. Pitted against her in a battle for the Semi-final spot was Lima. The Brazilian had not been in the best of forms and had shown a bit of inconsistency
in the event so far. However, she deserved the credit for successfully bouncing back every time she was pushed against the wall, a fact that was definitely going to keep Enever from taking her competitor easy.
As the battle for the Semi-final spot got underway, the Australian surfer got off to a confident start, locking a wave early in the heat to post a 6.50 on the score-board. She continued the charge and soon managed to back it up with an impressive 7.07-point
wave, taking her heat-total to 13.57 points.
Lima’s start was not exactly an ideal one, though she did manage to find her rhythm in the later stages of the heat. Locking her first business-wave, she posted a 6.00 on the score-board and add an additional 6.23-points to her account off her final wave
of the heat to finish with a two-wave total of 12.23 points. The 1.34-point deficit forced her to concede victory to Enever, sending the latter into the Semi-finals.
There was still plenty of action in store for the surfing fans as the event moved on to the last two Quarter-finals.
