Laura Miksch and Ryan Miksch triumph swimming events - High School State Championships, Nebraska
Laura Miksch and Ryan Miksch of Columbus upset their challengers by triumphing gold medals of Girls and Boys 50yard freestyle respectively on final day of the Nebraska High School State Championships for Boys and Girls in Lincoln on February 28.
Miksch remained prominent for gold medal throughout the shortest freestyle discipline. With her relentless efforts, she smothered her challengers and cemented her place on top of the podium for gold medal.
She made her way to the finishing wall for the crown of the event with the timing of 23.86 seconds. The gold medallist remained almost one stroke ahead of strongest rival, Natalie Renshaw of Millard North, who trailed her on the medal rostrum for silver medal by clocking an effort of 24.10 seconds.
The silver medallist remained in a lead of 0.33 seconds over Aimee Fischer of Lincoln Southwest, who seized third finest spot of the event by completing her swim in a time of 24.43 seconds. Similarly, the fourth best spot of the race was obtained by Jennelle Jarrett of Omaha Duchesne, who was 0.45 seconds slower from her former finisher and tapped the finishing end with an effort of 24.88 seconds.
In the meantime, Ryan Miksch proved his mettle for the title of Boys equivalent event. Miksch remained prominently away from his challengers and hit the finishing blockade with an effort of 20.64 seconds. He was followed by Matthew Medara of Creighton Prep, who suffered a deficit of 0.70 seconds and ended his sprint in a time of 21.34 seconds for silver medal.
Medara remained dominant over Keith Sponsler of Lincoln East, who emerged on the concluding wall with the timing of 21.40 seconds for bronze medal. He was chased by Medara’s teammate, Sean Tate, who was 0.31 seconds slower and submitted a time of 21.71 seconds for fourth position.
Miksch was delighted with her gold accomplishment in the event and stated her desire of continuing the same at superior levels of swimming. In addition, the arena appreciated remarkable struggles of all contestants in the 50yard discipline whereas the position holders were awarded medals for their ruthless efforts after the session. .
