Laura Robson aiming at a Gold Medal in 2016 Olympics – Tennis News
World number 53, Laura Robson, took some time out to talk about her life likes and dislikes. The reporter from The Tennis Space had some interesting questions to ask from the 18-year-old Briton who had a fantastic year at her disposal
winning a silver medal at the London Olympics in the mix-doubles category along with the 25-year-old Briton, Andy Murray.
Robson stated in an exclusive interview of the tennis space website, “I’ve already got Rio in the back of my mind which I know is a long way off. So my main goal for the last few years has been just to play in this Olympics. And
I got a medal out of that, so hopefully in Rio I can do one better.
Commenting about the favourite pick amongst the number one ranking, Olympics Gold and Wimbledon, Watson confessed, “Either Wimbledon or an Olympic gold medal. I don’t know. I’d take either really [smiling].”
She further added, “Every single one is an amazing achievement. But for me the Olympics are so big, I think that would rank above something like Roland Garros maybe – not that that’s not an amazing slam. But it’s just something
that I would love to do.”
Robson had a terrific season at her disposal. The highlight of her performance include the opportunity to win the title at Guangzhou International Women’s Open but she failed to beat the Taiwanese professional Su-Wei Hsieh and
squandered an opportunity to open an account in the Women Tennis Association titles category.
She enjoyed a short reign as the number one Briton as well before the 20-year-old Heather Watson took over the spot from her and ended the year amongst the Top-50 players of the world. However, it will not take long for the left-handed
Briton to accomplish the same milestone as she is just three ranks away from becoming the newest entrant in the elite Top-50 category.
Let’s hope the upcoming season yields better output for Watson. Hopefully, she will be able to break the duck in 2013 but it will take another great run in the next season to stay in the limelight.
