Laura Robson and Heather Watson talks about their friendship and tennis campaign – Tennis News
Young talented starlets, Laura Robson and Heather Watson of Great Britain, were joined by the media representatives to have an interview about their campaign in the upcoming Federation Cup tie.
Watson started the discussion in following fashion, “Well, what I’d say about Laura is that I like that she’s so aggressive on court and that’s one thing I’m actually trying to learn from her.”
Robson replied, “We’re going to be like Rafa [Nadal] and [David] Ferrer.” Robson being the left handed player will take Nadal’s place and Watson will mimic Ferrer but the 18-years-old beauty starlet was quick of catching on the
pitfall and soon covered it up with a delicate diplomacy. She said, “Er, come to think of it, Rafa wins all the time, so maybe that’s not the best example.”
Talking about the pressure they feel when they carry so many expectations of their fans in the match, younger partner, Robson stated, “I’ve never really paid any attention to it. Otherwise I’d have the biggest ego ever. If we keep
progressing the way we are, I think we’ll do very well and have great careers,”
They are aiming to get a shot for a place in Olympics squad but it is going to be very difficult for them considering that the number one British tennis ace, Elena Baltacha, is ranked 62 whilst another compatriot, Anne Keothavong,
is list as world number 73.
They look to break into the Top-70 players by midsummer but for that they will have to work really hard. Robson is ranked 123 in the world and her best friend Watson in listed 116. Watson being one year elder than her friend, she
has the more urge to break into the top listings quickly to bully her way into the Olympics zone. She said, “It’s a tough goal but something I think we’re both capable of.” Robson insisted her partner by commenting, “It’s definitely a possibility. Anyway,
if I don’t make it to the Games, I’ll go and watch it anyway.”
Both these players know each other since their childhood. They played tennis together and has been partnering each other in different tournament ever since their professional start to the career. They are chosen to team up against
the Swedish team in the next Federation Cup tie and they are ecstatic to have been handed over this supreme opportunity. They look to take full advantage of it and help their country to the next stage of the tournament.
