Laura Robson eyeing for success at the Australian Open 2013 – Tennis News
Former British number one, Laura Robson, is looking forward for success at the Australian Open, first of the four Grand Slam events taking place in Melbourne. She is currently enjoying her career best season which saw her becoming the first British women
to reach final round of main tour in 22 years.
Robson saw a spectacular season this circuit. She started her season standing at number 134 at the Australian Open. The Brit crushed her rivals in straight sets at the qualifying competition and booked a place in the main draw. However, Robson bowed out
to the former world number one, Jelena Jankovic, after receiving a bagel in the opening round.
Adding further to her misery, the Brit fell to a five match losing streak including opening round exit from the Roland Garros where she was a lucky loser. Robson snapped out from her losing streak at her home soil tournament in Eastbourne. However, she suffered
a first round loss against Francesca Schiavone at the Wimbledon Championships.
The 18-year-old re-focused her strategy after this loss and not only secured a semi-final berth at the Palermo WTA International event but also captured a silver medal at the London Olympics. She carried her rhythm at the US Open where she reached fourth
round (lost to Samantha Stosur). Mustering her season further, Robson became the first Brit to reach title-round the following week in Guangzhou.
The left-handed Brit explained that she entered the Australian Open without any practice mainly due to injuries she sustains when the year end. However, she is eyeing to break the jinx at the Australian Open 2013 and is looking forward to improve her record
there.
Robson stated in a press conference:
"Last year I went into the Australian Open with virtually no practice because I was on crutches until two or three weeks before. This is basically the first full training block I will have done, because most of the time I've been injured at this time. By
Australia I'm hoping to be super-fit."
The British Diva is currently working hard and training full time with her coach, Zeljko Krajan, to achieve her goal next year.
"It's been really tough so far and there's another month to go," Robson reflected. "I usually start at 7.45 or eight. I warm up until nine, then it's tennis from nine till 11, fitness from 11 to 12.30, warm up again at three, then tennis from 3.30 to 5.30.”
The British teenager is currently in Florida for her winter training programme before she will take holidays.
