Laura Robson fails in knowing the reason behind her recent success – Tennis News
Even the new British number one, Laura Robson, herself does know whether its magic or what behind her recent series of successes on the WTA Tour.
Robson advanced to the final of the Guangzhou International Women’s Tennis Open last month to become first British female to reach the title match of a tour level event since 1990.
The British rising star did not feature at the Toray Pan Pacific in Tokyo last week, after failing to appear in the qualifying round, as she was playing in Guangzhou when they took place.
However, the 18-year-old has carried her form into the China Open this week, as she toppled Japanese legend, Kimiko Date-Krumm, in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in the first round on Sunday.
Robson also did well at the US Open, where she stunned two former Grand Slam champions, Kim Clijsters and Li Na, in the second and third round respectively to reach the fourth round. However, China is now looking to be her favourite
destination, as she prepares to give two back to back superb performances in the Asian country.
Talking to the reports after winning her first round match, Robson said, "I don't think it's China because I haven't really left the hotel in Guangzhou or here (Beijing) yet apart from to go to Starbucks. I think the courts suit
me here because they are usually quite fast."
Robson started the season with a ranking of outside top 130 but now she is closing in to enter the best 50 players on the WTA Tour. Though, the left-hander is hoping to carry on this winning momentum into the coming events.
She added, "After this week I should be pretty close. It's definitely a target – but it's not a like a goal, I haven't spoken to my coach about it. It's just if it happens it will be really good but I've got to keep winning here
for sure and do well in Osaka (next week) to have a chance."
Robson has bright chances to reach the last 16, as she faces low ranked Spanish qualifier, Lourdes Dominguez Lino in the second round here.
