Briton booming starlet, Laura Robson, was thrilled to practice with the two biggest names in the currently active list of women tennis professionals. The two former world number ones, Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki, had
a decent practice session with the 96th ranked British starlet who is just 18-year-old.
Robson who is yet to get her hands at the maiden WTA (Women Tennis Association) title frankly teased her coach, Iain Bates, by stating “They are not bad hitting partners - a little bit better than my G.B. coach, no offence.” She
was pointing at the two great players of the women tennis who has achieved the top ranks in the world.
The left-handed British teen continued with her press-conference and added, "It's great to practice with people like that. Maria has won Wimbledon before, when she was 17, so she's an amazing player. Caroline is as well, so it's
great to be able to hit with them and also play some points with them at the end."
Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova was both ranked world number one this year on different occurrences. The Dane was topping the ranking charts at the start of the season just before the closing ceremony of the year’s first
Grand Slam Championship, the Australian Open. The Russian regained her top slot by winning the year’s second Grand Slam Championship, the Roland Garros French Open, but gifted it back to the Belarusian tennis ace, Victoria Azarenka, with a fourth round upset
at the Wimbledon Championships.
Robson was ecstatic to hit some rallies in friendly practice sessions with the two greats of women tennis. She is the former junior world number one and partner with her childhood best friend, Heather Watson, to represent Great
Britain in the doubles show at upcoming London Olympics. Watson, just 20-year-old, is ranked 78th in the world.
At the senior level, Robson has at most reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open 2010. So, she will be eyeing to improve that record at the London Games with her long lasting doubles partner, Watson. It’s expected that
these two players will be the biggest threat amongst the underdog teams at London Olympics.
