Laura Robson is too honest in sharing her opinion according to her rival’s coach – Tennis News
Su-Wei Hsieh’s coach, Paul NcNamee, believes that Laura Robson of Great Britain is quite honest in assessing her opponents.
Hsieh defeated the British number one in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in the final of Guangzhou Women’s International Tennis Open in China.
However, Robson was heard by Hsieh before the final took place, commenting on the Taiwanese’s game. The British rising stat said that she did not like Hsieh’s game due to her playing style.
In a recent interview, McNamee said, "After the semi-final, Su-wei told me she had heard Laura say that she didn't like playing her because of her style and I immediately told her that she had to use that as a positive. Perhaps
Laura was a little too honest in her assessment.”
Robson has emerged as one of the fastest rising players on the WTA World Tour in the last couple of months. The 18-year-old captured silver medal in the mixed doubles event with Andy Murray at the London Olympics.
Then she clinched two of the biggest wins of her career so far at the US Open. The left-hander stunned Kim Clijsters and Li Na in the second and third round respectively at the final Grand Slam of the season. However, she could
not topple Australia’s Samantha Stosur, going down in straight sets at the hands of the defending champion.
NcNamee praised Robson by saying, "Laura is such a different player these days. The two practised in Nottingham after the French Open this year and the difference in Laura between then and now is chalk and cheese. She is fitter
and stronger, she was out-hitting [Kim] Clijsters at the US Open.”
Before losing to Hsieh in the final of the WTA event in Guangzhou, Robson made three upsets on her way there. The British contender defeated Zheng Jie, Peng Shuai, Sorana Cirstea, who were seeded second, seventh and third respectively.
Robson had started the season with a ranking of outside top 100 but she has jumped to 57th position this week. She has replaced Heather Watson to become the number one women player of her country.
