Laura Robson outmuscles Laura Thorpe to reach the final qualifier – Roland Garros French Open 2012
British booming starlet, Laura Robson, faced immense resistance by the 25-year-old French, Laura Thorpe, in the second qualifier of the Roland Garros French Open on Thursday. However, she sneaked a win in straight sets 7-5, 7-6(5)
but with nothing  to spare at all.
World number 126, Robson, lost an early breakpoint in the opening set but bounced back immediately with a breakthrough in the third game. She held her serve in the following game to tie the scores at 2-2.
Thorpe faced a solid resistance in the following game from the Briton but she managed to save a breakpoint and held her serve. The lightning struck on the 18-year-old Briton when her serve was broken in the following game but her
composure kept her in the contest as she registered the second breakthrough to diminish the trail.
Scores were levelled at 4-4 with a commanding serve hold from the Briton who saved a breakpoint in the following serve game to keep the set alive and the scores together at 5-5. World number 233, Thorpe, was forced into a pressure
situation and she had to hold serve to swirl the tension back to her rival but she failed to do so and lost the serve game to 15:40.
It was the turning point in the set and Robson was leading the scores for the first time that proved good enough at the end as she registered a thumping serve hold of 40:15 to steal the set triumph. Trailing one set down after
leading the scores twice, the local looked a bit frustrated and agonized by her lack of ability to convert the set in her favour.
The tension kept rising and the visitor took benefit of that; registered a breakthrough in the third game and took a lead of 3-1 in the meantime. However, a classic cameo at both ends witnessed three successive breakpoints being
played; surprisingly two of them were won by the local who tied the scores at 4-4.
With no drama in the remaining part of the set, the tie-breaker round was enforced to decide the winner. Everything was going smooth for the local just before she missed a simple winner and lost the match.
Laura Robson will contest her final qualifier against the 20-year-old Czech starlet, Karolina Pliskova.
