Laura Robson says it is easy to play with Andy Murray – Tennis News
Great Britain’s rising star, Laura Robson, has shared that she had a lot of fun during London Olympics, when she partnered Andy Murray to claim silver medal in the mixed doubles category of the biggest sports event in the world.
Robson said while giving a recent interview to media, "It was a lot of fun that week. We were both taking it very seriously and he was getting very into it."
Robson and Murray entered the event as an unseeded team but played like a seasoned pair at their home ground. The Brits had prior experience of playing together, as they took part in the Hopman Cup before.
The 18-year-old added, "It's very easy to play with someone like Andy. I think he did a lot of the work when we were on court. He's very encouraging. I always felt really bad if I missed a shot and he was like, 'no, it doesn't
matter'; then as soon as he missed a shot, he was like, 'oh, I can't believe it'. He was very good to play with."
Robson and Murray showed brilliant fighting skills and solid temperament, as they won all of their matches in super tie-breakers. They overpowered Czech Republic’s Lucie Hradecka and Radek Stepanek 7-5, 6-7(7), 10-7 in the first
round at the London Olympics. Then the Brits former Grand Slam champions in singles, Samantha Stosur and Lleyton Hewitt of Australia, 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 in the quarter-finals.
After that, Robson and Murray outlasted the German duo of Sabine Lisicki and Christopher Kas 6-1, 6-7(7), 10-7 in the semi-finals. In the Gold Medal match, the British tandem easily won the first set and then lost the second set
like all their previous matches. However, they were not fourth time luck, as they went down 8-10 in the match tie-breaker.
Telling her future plans, she said, "I'm working extremely hard, so I'm planning on going in [to the year] with a lot of confidence."
Robson got a boost from that performance, reaching the fourth round at the US Open and title match at the Guangzhou International Women Tennis Championship, losing to Samantha Stosur and Su-Wei Hsieh respectively.
