Laura Robson topples Eleni Daniilidou in the first round – HP Japan Open 2012
Eighth seeded, Laura Robson, consolidated her straight sets win and barged into the second round of the HP Japan Open 2012. She gave her Greek rival, Eleni Daniilidou, a straight-set defeat, 6-4, 6-2, on Tuesday at the hard courts
of the WTA Premier Tournament 2012 in Osaka, Japan.  
The British professional stepped on the right track ever since the start of the opening set and unleashed her brilliant skills. She broke her challenger’s serve in the fifth game to register her initial breakthrough. She brushed
off all the perspective serve breaks dexterously and completely crumbled her opponent’s pressure. Robson progressed maintaining a remarkable performance as she did not even once broke her serve and terminated the opener with a 6-4 score line.
The 18-year-old British junior, sustained her lead by attacking her opponent with four aces and with a 61 percent first serve accuracy. She had 14 of 20 first and eight of 13 second serve points. In response, the Greek veteran
secured 64 percent first serve, bagging home 15 of 23 first and six of 13 second delivery points.
In the second set, the 30-year-old, Daniilidou, was unable to withstand her competitor’s pressure. The British participant quickly grabbed the opportunity and reeled off the initial three games, marking a 3-love lead. Despite of
her losing edge, the Greek participant broke her competitor’s serve in the fourth game but was never able to secure the lead. The British junior brushed off all the breaks beautifully and truly impressed her fans. Eventually, she bagged away all the games
and stole the set with a 6-2.
World number 56, Robson, spilled double faults thrice and was unable to fire even a single ace. She had a lower initial serve precision of 59 percent, converting a decent score by 11 of 19 first and seven of 13 second delivery
points. She managed to emerge to the front by capitalizing on three of the six break chances presented to her. In comparison to that, the right-hander Greek professional manifested 77 percent initial serve with 11 of 23 first and merely two of seven second
serve points.
