Laura Sugrue wins Women’s 50m breaststroke title – New Zealand SC Championships
Laura Sugrue of Jasi Swim Team-CB won gold medal of the Women’s 50m breaststroke in 16 and over age category on initial day of the State 2012 New Zealand Short Course Championships at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Wellington on Sunday, September
30.
The 16-year-old Sugrue continued her nerve-wrecking form in the shortest breaststroke discipline and earned her way to the victory stand as top fastest swimmer.
With her notable efforts, she managed to gain a lead of half stroke over her immediate swimmer and made her way to the finishing wall for the title by producing a time of 33.93 seconds.
Her title claiming effort remained 0.25 seconds ahead of Danelle Murphy of St Peters Swimming Academy-WK, who followed her on the finishing blockade as second best finisher by touching the wall with a timing of 34.18 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Sammy Winward of AquaGym Swim Team-CB, who stayed 0.41 seconds away and tapped the wall for bronze medal with a timing of 34.59 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Pearl Hans of Howick Pakuranga-CO, who stayed almost half a body length behind and hit the wall with a timing of 34.87 seconds.
Hans was traced by Chrystel Neilson of Raumati Swimming Club-WN, who was 0.47 seconds slower and tapped the wall with a timing of 35.34 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Aimee Moss of Howick Pakuranga-CO, who was 0.31 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 35.65 seconds.
Moss was followed by Rosie Lennox of Wide Bay Swimming Club, who was 0.19 seconds apart and emerged on the wall as seventh best finisher with a timing of 35.84 seconds.
Lennox was trailed by Tegan Duncan of Neptune Swimming Club-OT, who suffered a deficit of 0.29 seconds from her preceding swimmer and surfaced on the wall as eighth best swimmer by producing a time of 36.13 seconds.
Furthermore, Sugrue was extremely happy with her top finish in the event and said that she would struggle hard to accomplish the same in breaststroke discipline at higher levels of international swimming.
