Laura Val impresses in Santa Cruz - 2011 Pacific Masters Championships
The 2011 Pacific Masters Championships ended with the scintillating performances of Laura Val in her respective events at Santa Cruz, California.
Val won the Women’s 100m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 800m freestyle and 1500m freestyle titles. She also nabbed her fifth title in the 50m freestyle, whereas, she secured another gold medal in the 400m Individual Medley meet. She next grabbed
gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly events.
Val topped the Women’s 100m freestyle race in a winning time of 1 minute and 06.21 seconds. More importantly, she beat South African, Sanderina Kruger’s previous record of 1 minute and 06.63 seconds.
In the meantime, Val grabbed her second gold medal in the Women’s 200m freestyle meet by touching the finishing wall in just 2 minutes and 23.34 seconds. She broke Sanderina Kruger’s previous record of 2 minutes and 29.54 seconds.
In the Women’s 400m freestyle event, Val earned first place honours in an impressive time of 5 minutes and 03.88 seconds. Most importantly, she beat BettyAnn Barnett Sallee’s previous record of 5 minutes and 21.79 seconds, set back in 2006.
She then touched the finishing wall to post a fastest time of 10 minutes and 27.71 seconds in the Women’s 800m freestyle finals. Amazingly, she broke Barbara Dunbar’s previous record of 11 minutes and 16.81 seconds, set back in 2009.
In the Women’s 1500m freestyle relay finals, Val captured another gold medal by completing the distance in 19 minutes and 52.85 seconds. She broke Dunbar's previous record of 21 minutes and 16.05 seconds.
Vale then nabbed the Women’s 50m freestyle crown in 30.00 seconds, whereas, she earned another title in the 400m Individual Medley with a record time of 5 minutes and 56.27 seconds.
She also secured three gold medals in the Women’s 50m and 100m butterfly events with a victorious time of 33.28 seconds and 1 minute and 14.51 seconds, respectively. In another meet, Vale took home the 200m butterfly crown after she touched the finishing
wall in a time of 2 minutes and 43.64 seconds.
