Laura Van Gilder shines at the NEPCX-NBX Gran Prix Cyclo-Cross 1 2012 Elite Women category
Laura Van Gilder of Team Mellow Mushroom wins the Elite Women category of the NEPCX-NBX Gran Prix Cyclo-Cross 2012 after her outrageous performance during the event.
She took a total time of 37 minutes and 46 seconds to occupy the top podium position restricting Elle Anderson of Team Ladiesfirst Racing at the second spot.
Anderson admired Gilder’s performance and stated that, “She just sort of started to creep away from me and I was never able to get back to her”.
Gilder said that the race finish was very tactical but she was glad to occupy the top podium position.
“That finish is very tactical,” said Van Gilder. “I’ve seen 2nd place come around the leader on the pavement, so I wanted to get there on my own,” race winner stated.
Anderson rode with superb authority throughout the day but could match the likes of her inform compatriot, as she fall 7 seconds short of Gilder and settled for the second position.
Gilder and Anderson took the early lead and worked as a team to maintain their dominance at the event.
However, Gilder managed to take a minute lead over Anderson in the final lap which opens a door for Kemmerer who struggled throughout the day behind the two leaders.
Arley Kemmerer of Team C3-Athletes Serving Athletes, Crystal Anthony of Team Cyclocrossworld.com and Cassandra Maximenko of Team Silverbull/Bones/Thule occupied the third, fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
Natasha Elliot of Team Steven’s Racing p/b The Cyclery, Julie Lafreniere of Team Xprezo-Borsao, Maureen Bruno Roy of Team Bob's Red Mill p/b Seven Cycles, Mary McConneloug of Team Kenda-Seven-Notubes and Kathleen Lysakowski of Team Cycle Lodge claimed the next five spots.
Meanwhile, Shawn Milne of Team Cyclocrossworld.com wins the Elite Men category of the race after his heroic performance to complete the race in 1 hour, 3 minutes and 5 seconds leaving the race favourites behind.
Micheal Garrigan of Team Stage-Race/Blacksmith Cycle fall 7 seconds short at the second position with Dan Timmerman of Team Rgm Watches-Richard Sachs, Justin Lindine of Team Redline and Nicholas Keough of Team www.keoughcyclocross.com occupying the third, fourth and the spots.
