Laure Manaudou dominates Women’s 200m back-stroke meet – 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals
Laure Manaudou of Unat Auburn dominated the Women’s 200m back-stroke meet, on the last day of the 2011 USA Swimming Sectionals in Athens, Georgia, USA. The meet was the fifth event of the session, where 24-year-old Manaudou showered her expertise in the
four-lap swim to conquer the gold medal.
Manaudou, who qualified into the finals as the fifth fastest swimmer, geared up her swim in the final rounds and clocked a top fastest time of 2 minutes and 10.20 seconds for the title of the event. The fastest qualifying swimmer, Megan R Romano of ABSC,
who posted a time of 2 minutes and 13.15 seconds in the qualifying rounds, stayed 2.75 seconds behind Manaudou and posted a time of 2 minutes and 12.95 seconds for silver medal. Romano’s team-member, 22-year-old Lauren English, stepped on the podium for the
bronze medal, by producing a time of 2 minutes and 15.09 seconds.
Manaudou is the gold medallist of the 400m freestyle at the 2004 Athens Olympics. She also won the silver medal in 800m freestyle and a bronze medal in the 100m back-stroke at the same Olympic Games.
Furthermore, Kelsey Gaid of ABSC claimed the fourth fastest spot in the 200m back-stroke, as she stayed 0.25 seconds behind English and posted a time of 2 minutes and 15.34 seconds. Carly L Smith of NCAC was the fifth position holder of the event, as she
touched the finishing wall in 2 minutes and 15.49 seconds. Kylie Stewart of DYNA stayed 0.24 seconds behind Smith and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 15.73 seconds for the sixth position.
Rebecca Brooks of Live Y’ERS was almost two seconds behind Steward and completed her swim in 2 minutes and 17.02 seconds for seventh position. Lillie C Smith of Mor Wolfpack managed to secure the eighth position of the event, with a timing of 2 minutes and
18.59 seconds.
The arena enjoyed the beautiful swims of all participants, while the winners received a huge round of applause from the audience for their noteworthy swims in the back-stroke event.
